Honolulu is the island's largest city and provides the perfect blend of modern life whilst not losing Hawaiian traditions in the USA. Visit Pearl Harbour and the Arizona War Memorial for one of the most well-known pieces of history. On the south of the island, Waikiki is best known for its long beaches, shops, restaurants and exciting nightlife ideal for sunbathing all day and dining and dancing the evening away.

The north is more relaxed with pristine white sandy beaches, beautiful harbours and a real surfers paradise to catch a wave or two. Hanauma Bay Nature Preserves crystal clear waters allow the ideal spot for snorkelling to discover what lies beneath the ocean's surface to see the marine life and reefs. Admire Koolau Cliffs and Windward Coast from Nuuanu Pali Lookout or see thrill-seekers diving off the cliffs ar Waimea Valley National Park or for a little retail therapy Pahu's open-air malls and boutiques are ideal. The Kahala Hotel & Resort

For more than half a century the Kahala has been the epitome of island luxury and the ideal relaxing retreat fronting a peaceful stretch of sand and a little over a mile drive to Kahala Mall. The breezy lobby with tall shutter doors and colourful chandeliers to the beautifully decorated guest rooms give this place a deliciously decadent feel. Relax with afternoon tea or try your hand at hula classes, free daily surf lessons and sand toys available for children.

Guests are greeted with a chilled towel and flower lei by the knowledgeable and welcoming staff. The surrounding waters are called home by turtles, stingrays in waterfall-fed lagoons and dolphins that you can pay to get up close and personal with. The spa boasts indoor-only massages, facial and body treatments. There is also a modern fitness centre with outdoor saunas that lead paddle board yoga classes.

Rooms are decorated on soft colours and island prints to give this a spa-like oasis feel. In Kahala Towers you can see from Diamond Head to Koko Head Crater and still hear the waves crashing at night. Goose-down duvets allow for the dreamiest nights sleep where you could easily spend all day. Rooms also offer separate tubs, rain showers and chaise longues and balconies in some.

Delicious dining is available at the glass enclosed Hoku with sushi and steak dinners and a rave-worthy Sunday brunch with king crab legs. Seaside grill allows for al fresco dining as does Plumeria Beach House with indoor options available too. Finally, Arancino serves high-end Italian with delights such as wagyu beef Bolognese and pasta in squid ink.
