Holiday in Rio de Janeiro

With more than 2000 beaches stretching the shoreline, Brazil is sure to find you a secluded and sophisticated paradise sport here for rest and relaxation. To the east of Rio de Janeiro, Búzios is a stunning peninsula with 20 beaches and the clearest sea waters in South America you can find and is surrounded by boutiques and fine restaurants. Iguaza Falls should be on every visitor's list of things to see where 250 spectacular waterfalls plunge into the river.

Brazilian Carnival is like no other. Held 40 days before Easter it lasts 5 days and here you truly see the streets come alive with parades and the truly jubilant celebration with song and dance and the only place where everyone is adorned in feathers and glitter. Just make sure to fuel yourself on the incredible Brazilian food with the best BBQ and prime cuts of meat available.

A trip to Brazil isn’t complete without seeing Christ the Redeemer overlooking Rio de Janeiro at 30 metres tall. Take a helicopter ride for a panoramic view at the peak of Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park. There is also the cog train available to the scenic park up close and the stunning views of the city and beaches below. Don't forget to end your days with cachaça, a Brazilian speciality that is the essence of every tropical cocktail.

Belmond Copacabana Palace

Straight from the old guard of luxury hotels, the Copacabana Palace in its classic location has enormous charm - and the sophisticated brand of hospitality on offer speaks volumes for its longstanding pedigree in receiving and pampering the international jet set.

There is a strong theme of Hollywood glamour about the place with the majestic chandeliers and pillared vestibules. Every room is well appointed with king sized beds, crisp bed linen and a luxurious bathroom; although naturally, the rooms with sea views are the hot ticket.

Everywhere furnishings reflect rich local materials in the burnished Brazilian wood and marble flooring. There is the perfect mix of cuisines from the Ken Hom curated pan-Asian Mee and the high brow Cipriani Italian restaurant. The only big decision is the choice of the stunning swimming pool or to step right on to the beach and down to the ocean.
